MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT

2026– 2027 Garden Club Year

I am grateful for the opportunity to serve as your Club president for another year. As we begin our 95th year together, it is remarkable to reflect on the accomplishments of our Club, founded in 1932. I look forward to sharing more engaging and educational activities with all of you.

In recent months, we have enjoyed a full schedule, including a successful plant sale in April and informative speakers coordinated by our program chair, vice president Jean Cook. We have also continued our popular social gatherings at local restaurants. In addition, we are proud to support local schools through financial grants for their gardens, helping foster students’ interest in gardening from an early age.

Our garden club represents more than an appreciation for plants and flowers. It provides opportunities to build friendships, share experiences, and contribute collectively to the stewardship of our local environment.

The strength of our Club comes from the dedication of its members. Your willingness to volunteer enables the organization to thrive year after year. I encourage everyone to participate, whether by contributing a few hours or taking on a leadership role. There is an opportunity for each member to make a meaningful contribution.

OUR SCHOLARSHIPS AND SCHOOL GRANTS

About 50 years ago, in the early 1970’s, a group of Carlsbad Garden Club members decided that the Club’s philanthropy would be to provide scholarship money to college students studying horticulture. Today, we raise money to provide scholarships to students enrolled in Mira Costa College’s Horticulture
program. Students in this field study the art and science of cultivating plants. the curriculum also includes the study of the design, installation, and maintenance of landscape, crop production, and wine technology.

Raising money for scholarships is a wonderful way to assist students in need so that they can have a more successful future!

In addition to the Mira Costa scholarships, we also support several local K - 12 school gardens. We delight in watching children develop the joy of gardening at a young age!
